What is CBM?
Condition-Based Maintenance (CBM) is a maintenance process where the condition of equipment can be ascertained by testing parameters such as temperature, vibration and noise etc. These parameters are analysed for early signs of faults. Maintenance can then be planned accordingly.
Several different technologies can be utilised:
- Vibration analysis
- Infrared thermography
- Ultrasonic detection
- Oil analysis
- Shaft & Pulley alignment
- Partial discharge monitoring
Benefits of outsourcing CBM
CBM offers several benefits ranging from improved asset availability and increased production to the significant reduction of energy consumption.
The downside of predictive maintenance is that it can be costly to implement because of the high cost of purchasing equipment and training staff. By using an outside contractor, these investment costs can be side-stepped and the benefits can be realised sooner, providing a win-win situation.
