COMBINED, HEAT AND POWER SYSTEMS
What it is:
Combined Heat & Power (CHP) is the simultaneous production of electricity and recovery of heat, a by-product of electricity generation.
Who can benefit from it:
It is ideal for industrial or commercial applications where there is a balanced local demand for heat and electricity.
Dalkia can provide a fully outsourced design, build, finance, operate & maintain model with a long-term contract.
We are currently responsible for the operation and maintenance of over 810 CHP units worldwide totalling over 4,923MW of power output.
The benefits of CHP include:
![]() | Significant end user energy savings compared to local heat production and importing electricity from grid | |
![]() | Significant environmental benefits – Typically achieves 25% input energy savings compared to independent heat / electricity production (this benefit is recognised in the government energy white paper). |
Businesses can now avail of grant support of up to 30% of the capital costs for CHP installations from Sustainable Energy Ireland.
To see a Dalkia CHP case study please click here. Dalkia acquired in July 2007 a majority share in The Cogeneration Company Limited, owner of leading combined heat & power (CHP) systems supplier Cogenco Limited.

DAE CHP
Dalkia Alternative Energy (DAE) currently operates and maintains 54.4MW of electrical generation through combined heat and power (CHP) units within Ireland alone. DAE provides a complete turnkey CHP installation service which benefits from the years of project management experience and expertise gained by Fingleton White & Co - 57MW of electrical generation experience in Ireland.
In addition, the know-how gained by Dalkia in operating and maintaining over 810 CHP units (4,025MW of electrical generation) worldwide is provided, which ensures the long-term efficiency and availability of the CHP unit.
DAE currently operates and maintains 54.4MW of electrical generation through combined heat and power (CHP) units within Ireland alone.
